Two Highway Accidents Keep Bravest Running

Two minor motor-vehicle accidents on Route 9 kept Croton's emergency services busy on this Friday, kicking off the holiday weekend.

The first incident occurred around 9:15 this morning on the southbound side of Route 9, north of the Municipal Place exit. A garbage truck and sedan collided, creating a fluid spill on the roadway. First-arriving Engine 119's Captain (Colombo) established Command and requested Rescue 18 for absorbent. E120 assisted with traffic control before being released a short time later.

Both vehicles' occupants declined medical treatment, and all units were back in service a short time later.

The second accident came in around 5:20 PM during the evening rush hour. This time it was on the northbound side, just north of the Croton River Bridge. Engine 119 was first on the scene and Lieutenant Feminella established command until relieved by Car 2082 (A/C Vlad).

The two cars that were involved sustained minor damage, and FD personnel assisted with traffic mitigation and cleaning up debris in the road. All occupants refused medical attention, and units cleared the highway within 30 minutes.

With the heightened amount of accidents that occur on Route 9, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department takes a proactive approach, sending three apparatus to control traffic, provide lighting and create a safe working area for all emergency responders. As we always say, "Everyone Goes Home," and doing something simple like this helps to ensure that for not only us, but our colleagues in EMS and Law Enforcement.

Thanks to "OFD 3" for the photos from this evening's MVA.

Units: 2082, 2083, E119, E120, R18, CEMS, CPD
